Student Reflections: Arvin Apostol

It has already been three days since we have have landed in Nicaragua, and its has been an amazing yet eye-opening journey.

The first day, we got to the Amos House and talked about the plans during our ten days here. The second day, we woke up early and  ate breakfast together at 7:00 am. It was also our big day to first experience the people at Bautista Libertad. It was such a pleasant surprise to see them with open arms, welcoming us to their community, their home. I have never seen so much compassion, unity and joy like they had with one another. Although we may be different culturally, we are all the same through Christ which was so evident to me during our time with them.

The language barrier has been a challenge but that didn't stop them or us from  bonding and learning from each other.

The third day taught me the importance of being grateful with the things we have, as well as the relationships we have with one another during the painting of the school. This showed that it doesn't matter how much or how little we have, it is the connections with the people that is the most important.

We met wonderful people who were part of that community, Blanca, her sister, and their mother. Blanca is currently a teacher at the school which is primarily operated by her family. Her mother has lived in the same house near the school for 60 years where Blanca was born. She has never left and wants to make a better change towards the future of education for the kids. Blanca's sister lives next door and it was so cool seeing how they live so close to each other as at home, showing the importance of family and relationships.

I'm truly blessed for everything that has happened to me during this trip and I'm looking forward to what God has planned for us during the remainder of the days here.
