Day 2

Day two of our time in Belize, today was Sunday. This morning we had breakfast and then left to the Spanish dominated church, meaning that half the songs were in spanish, and a tenth of the speakers words were translated for us. Part way through the service we were invited, if we wanted to, to go with the students to their classes.

The group I followed, age 11-14, had a class with the teacher trying her best to make the class understandable to us English speakers. Now the coolest part of the ordeal of church is that, unlike the classes I teach at my church, we went back to the rest of the congregation after our class, teaching them, what we learned. Our class did this, as well as the younger children, and the older young adults class, all sharing what they had learned. This community also did not end at the end of the service, all the children stayed together to play games until us Canadians were too hot and out of breath to play anymore. At this point we were called in to have dinner with a Canadian and an American lady who were part of the church and school. They were happy to share many stories of their times in Belize, including, to Amy' dismay, stories of parasites and diseases that are taken as nothing here. The day continued with going through town with some of the kids from church, just chatting and joking around.

We later left to go back to the hotel to swim in the ocean and have dinner.

And about 10 minutes ago we finished our group discussion and prayer. We were all sent out to answer a question, Who will we speak to when we return home, and what about?

We await the work that we will be doing tomorrow, ready and excited about the things to come.
