Whew, we made it. What an adventure! Where do we start. Well, let's just say we had a very exciting day, and through all the misfortunes and adventures, we have all made it to our hotel in Belize safe and sound. That is the most important thing about this day, that we are all together.
First, I have to tell a short story about Calgary that was really funny. Aaron, Adrian and Graham left their bags with Nathan and the rest of the team because they wanted to go outside in the -10C and play in the snow. They thought they would be able to get back in to get their bags, but found they couldn't. Aaron spoke up and asked a nice Air Canada lady, and she went the extra mile for them. She paged Nathan, who thought the whole things was a joke, so ignored the first page. Finally, Nathan and the girls ended up bringing the boys' bags outside so the group could join together again. Mishap number 1 on the day.
Sleeping that night in Houston was a joke. We each had about two hours, under the escalator, on the hard ground. Oh well, we're still alive.
Travel day to Belize in the morning was adventure number 2. United Airlines wouldn't let our two youngest members board the plane in Houston as they were only 16 years old and UA required a notarized letter from parents. United Airlines blamed Canada Air for letting us get from Victoria to Calgary and Calgary to Houston. Someone even said that we would probably have to pay for the two members to get back to Calgary. We prayed, with passion. God answered our prayers as a hostess noticed what was going on and showed compassion and helped us. She was very kind and actually took the time to help us work through the 'problem.' We ended up phoning the parents of Aaron and Courtney at 4:30am local Pacific time, and they were both very gracious in getting the necessary documents together (with the help of their kind friend John Jordan) and faxing them to UA in Houston. Courtney and Aaron made it on the plane to Belize! Yay God.
Miguel was our host at the airport and we were able to talk together with him for a few hours as we waited for Courntey and Aaron. It was fun to have that time four our group to get to know our host. We are excited and anticipating our time with the church at Christo Rey tomorrow, as well as the time we get to spend with Miguel and his school in Christo Rey. Praise the Lord!
