Day 6 - Day of Rest and Relationships

We awoke to a beautiful sunny morning on our glorious Lord's day! However the breeze had subsided and things were somewhat thicker than usual and as the kids say.....we're not talkin about the hair on the 3 mens backs!

Fresh coffee, and french toast with a pan fried banana on top with honey was the start to our morning.  It was definitely a hi-lite to Sam's day!

We drove to Cristo Rey for a 9:00 AM Sabbath School start.  We arrived just in time to sing some spanish hymns and then fortnately for us an english class.  The class was put on by Dorothy who has spent 30 years here and is also a teacher.  We reviewed what does it mean to have faith.  All our kids and adults participated along with 4 local students who are in our equivalent of junior high.

After Sabbath school we returned to the Hotel Maya for a lunch of chicken and rice washed down with some limeade.  A little to tart for some but quenched your thirst nonetheless.

With a beautiful day on hand we of course had to venture to the outskirts of Corozal to find a local swimming hole.  We shared some space with some villagers along with their music.  Some of us found shade when we weren't swimming.  Some of us did some reading.  Some of us failed to listen to our parents and reapply sunscreen every 20 minutes.  You should be able to figure out who that is when they get home.

A quick turnaround time was necessary at the hotel to get us back in time for the 5:00 PM service in Cristo Rey. We were quite the sight.....a large Ford Econoline van with 12 people singing 57B and 117A screaming down the road hitting every speed bump prepping just in case we get the call to sing in the service.  It's an amazing thing that you can be 3300 km's as the crow flies away from home and you can sit in a small church with a visiting Mexican Pastor having his sermon translated in english for us and hear God's word and be able to share our faith with the Belizean people.  It is simply amazing!

Then of course our day wouldn't be complete without an awesome barbecued chicken dinner with homemade potato salad, beans, and fresh tortilla's to finish the evening off.  The Sloots took over tonight as our eating champions and the trash talk is getting us all set up for the big "eat off" between them and Krischan and Sam.

We're just sitting out here (now 2 hours behind home) on an upper patio with our bottled pop and digesting just how truly wonderful our God is (that and it was a good seat for Billy and Stephen to watch the local fire department put out a fire in a tree that was started by a family picnic earlier in the day!)  There is a another big work day planned tomorrow and it looks and sounds like everyone is gearing up and ready to tackly it!
