Clearview Day 7: The Project Continues and a Trip to La Pita

Today seven team members continued the different tasks at the school project. Rebar continues to be tied, purlins are getting painted and more cement was poured today. We have transitioned from digging holes to digging trenches for the walls. Thankfully the depth requirements are significantly less for the trenches. Lunch break permitted time to hear testimony from both the principal, Angela, and the computer science teacher, Carlo, who has also been working alongside us when he is able.

Five of our team were hosted by Mark Vanderwees (World Renew) and driven to Jinotepe to visit with St. Lucas, the implementing partner for the La Pita water project.  We were introduced to Alma, who hosted our home church youth team in March 2018, and Cesar, the water project engineer and now Interim Director of St. Lucas. Cesar and Alma provided us with a history and update on the La Pita project.  We then headed out towards La Pita, our minds filled with stories of our youths’ one hour commute sitting on benches in the back of a pick up truck. We felt fortunate to be riding in a comfortable vehicle along the bumpy roads, crossing over riverbeds that a few months ago were filled with rushing waters during their rainy season. Our hearts were filled with gratitude as the same people who welcomed our youth team 10 months ago, now welcomed us with open hearts, sharing a wonderful meal and proudly sharing the history of their water project.  The village elected water committee, established to oversee the construction and the eventual operations, proudly told us how each household committed to financially supporting the project as well providing a mandatory portion of the labour. Additionally, once the water project is operational, each household has committed to paying a monthly usage fee to cover future maintenance costs. We will rejoice with the village of La Pita on the day that the clean water is in use and they transition from the old well system that is 100% contaminated!

We continue to covet your prayers for the people of Nicaragua and the various projects undertaken by both EduDeo and World Renew.
