Today we got to sleep in a little bit and woke up at 8:30ish. We all went down for a tasty breakfast and then got ready to go to church. We went to Guido's church (Franklin (our translator's) father) and Franklin preached the sermon there in Spanish with a few sentences in English to help us get the jist of what he was saying. The service was very loud compared to what we are used to but the people there are so excited about their worship of God and praise him for everything. After the 2 hour service we headed back home for lunch when it started to pour buckets. Thankfully we stayed dry while we ate and afterwards we went to a room above the kitchen to do our own little devotion/service. We watched a video of a sermon by RC Sproul which we could understand better and get much more out of it than the Spanish service. It was an amazing experience though to be able to see the culture of the Dominican's in their church service. Once we were done some of us took a nap and others just hung out in our home until Franklin came and picked us up again. It was still raining when we left but we decided as a team to get over the rain and enjoy our day by doing some fun activities. Franklin took us to Los Tres Ojos where we got to explore three huge caves all with pristine blue water. At the end of the third cave there was a big lake filled with lots of fish which we found out was used in the filming of Jurassic Park. We then headed to the old downtown Santo Domingo and looked at all the shops there (the ones that were open still). On the way there we witnessed what can be all too common in downtown Santo Domingo. We saw an older lady lying on her back on the sidewalk. There was nobody else around she was just laying there and appeared to be completely out of it. As we drove by we didn't really know what to do about the situation and so Franklin reminded us that it isn't possible to help every single person that we see is in trouble. This was a little bit hard for some of us to take in but we realized that Franklin was right and it's not possible with the thousands of people in need in this country. Before we knew it it was dinner time and we headed back to Pizzarelli for another pizza dinner. We stopped for a few groceries on the way home and once we were back it was raining again so we are now sitting at home enjoying each other's company till it comes time for bed.
