One of the great things about being on an Edudeo team is that it is not only about the work. Much effort is spent to ensure that the teams enjoy a balance of work and learning/fun experiences.
On Saturday, we had a Cultural day. We travelled from Managua to San Juan De Oriente, to Granada, to the Masaya Volcano and back to Managua in the evening. The day consisted of a pottery demonstration, a zip lining adventure where we all became proficient in The Freaky Monkey, The Freaky Bouncy and The Boiled Noodle, a boat tour around some beautiful islands in Lake Nicaragua and a viewing of an actual active volcano.
Sunday morning, we loaded back into the van and headed to church. This church service gave us all an opportunity to experience some very energetic praise and worship. It was wonderful to feel such genuine excitement for the Lord in this place.
In the afternoon on Sunday, we took a trip to the Pacific Ocean, to the town of Pochomil, one hour west of Managua. There we could enjoy the ocean’s waves and the beautiful sunny weather of Nicaragua.
Today, Monday, we had a day of learning. We learned about the work of Edudeo. We learned about the association of 92 Christian schools, ACECEN, which is doing such wonderful work throughout the entire country, connecting these schools together. We travelled to Escuela Christiana Gamaliel in Managua, Pequeno Benjamin School in Tipitapa, and Kenneth R Hanna in Managua, all schools that have benefitted from projects by Edudeo.
The above experiences all assist in our understanding the culture, the people and the passions of the Nicaraguans. The more we know, the more we can understand, the more we will respect our brothers and sisters of other cultures. We have learned that this is as important as the tangible assistance we provide.
