Our first day has turned out to be amazing. When our bus was late because of mechanical problems, we set ourselves up for disappoinment and frustration but we were wrong.
We arrived at the school and got a tour of the classrooms while the tools were collected. The students welcomed us in each class with a song and let us see their work.
The foreman of the job set us out to dig a trench which will be filled with cement and blocks as a foundation for the fence. Tha soil is clay, very dry and with lots of stones. We were soon sweating profusely in the hot sun, using shovels, prybars and pickaxes.
Throughout the day various students came to us to ask our names, to "help" and to give us notes.
We had started the day with a theme "They will know we are Christians by our love"
We hope we accomplished this but we can say that the children and teachers turned it around and used it towards us as well.
It is a calm clear night and we are now relaxing by going for a walk and playing games.
