Dia del Trabajo

Today dawned bright, sunny, and hot! We began our second day of work, this time with the kids present in their classrooms. There was a lot more sifting, shoveling, and hauling of sand, rocks, and cement.

Today, however, we used a piece of rebar with a hook to haul the buckets of cement to the second story. We would hook the full buckets to the rebar and it would get pulled up to the second floor where the buckets would be emptied and then passed back down.

Today we found that working was a lot easier than it had been on Saturday, and for that we were grateful. We were able to take shorter breaks and work more, therefore accomplishing more! There were also more workers today, so there was more work accomplished!

When our lunch break rolled around, we decided that we were going to hand out stickers to the children. However, once we started with one, they all mobbed us! Half hour later we resurfaced from the pack of children with no stickers left!

Our pile of sand to be sifted has gotten smaller, and the number of walls that we have gotten parged has gotten larger. We are extremely grateful for all of the messages of support that we have gotten while we are down here, and we thank you for your prayers for our journey here in the Dominican Republic!
