The Best Day!

Tuesday - Today was the last day for us to finish our part of the project we had started when we arrived last week. So far we had worked on parging the inside of 3 classrooms and helped finish a fourth. Today our goal was to help with the principal's new office and start on the last room.

Jack T. and Bernie V. laid in the plumbing for a couple of washrooms and ran the rain down spouts to the sidewalk. Loads of sand was sifted to mix with the cement by our Haitian friend Hosez. By noon the temperate in the sun was 38 degrees. The kids helped clean up the area before lunch and we were surprised with pork-chops and mashed potatoes and vegetables for lunch prepared by the local ladies. The principal thanked us on behalf of the school and we were given gifts of beautiful decorated bottles made by the students. Before going back to the ministry centre we did a community walk and saw the school's community where the students have their homes. Very poor and very primitive, yet people were friendly and we were welcomed to their community. It truly brought home to us the blessing we enjoy in Canada but also the joy of being able in a small way to contribute to the upbuilding of this community and their children who are the future of the Christian witness in the Dominican Republic. We were all invited to Mario Matos & his wife Yolanda's  home for supper to get acquainted further with COCREF and the work that Mario does in the DR.

This was a very blessed day for us,full of purpose and satisfaction.

It is our prayer that the Lord will bless his church here and provide for all people, especially the young people of this small but beautiful country.
