The First Work Day

Yesterday was a travel day. The flight to Miami went smoothly but we had a short delay upon arrival.  Due to bad weather in New York a number of planes were held at their gates in the Miami airport. The team was starting to get a little nervous waiting on the tarmac and wondering whether we were going to make our connecting flight to Santo Domingo.  Fortunately the Santo Domingo flight also experienced a short delay.  We all arrived safely in Santo Domingo minus a few pieces of luggage. The luggage did come today after we returned from our day of work on the school.

Today many of the team woke to a symphony of rooster crows who all thought that the morning was beginning at different times.  Ear plugs will be popular tonight.  We started our day with a great breakfast including excellent coffee.  We got a short orientation from the local organization that works with Edudeo as well as a tour of their offices and the rest of the ministry centre. We drove together in a van to the school. There we did a lot of work including cleaning up the job site, moving wood used for the cement forms and parging (plastering) the inside walls of some new classrooms built by other Edudeo teams along with local contractors. There was some laughter by the local contractors who watched some of our team attempt to do this work for the first time. There was a large amount of cement that dropped to the ground.  Thankfully this dropped cement could be salvaged and reused.  Many of the team carried buckets of cement to keep the supply into the classroom flowing.  It was a great day! We met another team here at the Ministry centre who are from Barrrie and Stratford and have enjoyed a great 10 days.  We have felt God's presence during our first 2 days and are very thankful to him for his care.
