Team History

Originally, Team Niagara was scheduled to go to Nicaragua in January 2012. We had our first team meeting in January 2011 and things began to take shape.
But the Lord had other plans for us.
One of our team members, Bob Hamersma, had a grave injury in February 2011. Thankfully God spared his life but unfortunately he and his wife Jayne had to withdraw from the team.
We worked through a couple of fundraisers - a huge garage sale (thanks to many wonderful donations by family and friends!), and an afternoon Grand River cruise in May on what must have been the hottest day of the year!!

During this time, some serious illnesses began to strike a few more team members and we started to question what God had in store for us. Aleida (our team leader) asked us to pray about it and scheduled a team meeting. At this meeting we decided to post-pone (not cancel!) the trip scheduled for January 2012 until the following January (less than 6 months to go!)
Ecclesiastes 3:1 - "There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under heaven"
George and Gep Elzinga also withdrew from the trip scheduled for January 2013. They had been going with Team Niagara for years and it was a difficult decision for them. They have been such a blessing to Team Niagara!
At a recent meeting Aleida informed us that another team member, Dick Kralt, is also reluctantly withdrawing. Dick would like to help us with any further fundraising and we are keeping him in our prayers!
As things continue to progress, we pray this will be a year rich in blessings for our team and that, the Lord willing, January 2013 finds us healthy and with a servant heart, ready to work in Nicaragua!
1 Peter 4:11 - "If anyone speaks, he should do it as one speaking the very words of God. If anyone serves, he should do it with the strength God provides, so that in all things God may be praised through Jesus Christ. To him be the glory and the power for ever and ever. Amen."
