Well, we are all home - safe and healthy; minus 4 pieces of luggage though. Somehow they didn't make it on the plane in Atlanta, but should be here tomorrow.
A few highlights I would like to mention:
- One evening instead of dropping Felix and Mike (the 2 Nicaraguan workers) off on the main street as usual, we dropped them off at their home so we could see where they live. We were all shocked to see the poverty in their neighbourhood, but was important for us to see that this is how the majority of people in Nicaragua live.
This morning, as we were in the lineup at the airport to have our bags checked, Mike came by on his way into work to see us off. It was so unexpected, but really touching to know that we all had such an impact on him!
- It was great to have school in session while we were there; it was such a blessing to see how well the teens were able to connect with the students. I was also so impressed with how well they did on the worksite; what a hard-working, mature bunch!
- I was impressed once again how much Nicaragua is moving forward. There is a marked difference between now and 10 years ago. I can even see the changes in the 1 ½ years since I was last in this country.
BIG thanks goes to Don and Betty Tilstra, Teresa VanMarrum, and to our leader Nicole Breukelman for all the hard work done in every aspect of planning this trip. All your hard work and dedication to this team is evident in the rewarding experiences we all shared!
Also thanks goes to Edu-Deo Ministries for having the right people in place in-country and to The Nehemiah Centre for hosting us. Thanks be to God for keeping us all safe and allowing us to return to our families.
