Que paso con Teresa?!? (..means, what's up with Teresa?!)

Today was another regular workday; an extremely early wakeup call, breakfast (which of course included rice & beans), and an hour long commute to the worksite. This morning we finished painting the perlins, we moved the pile of dirt from one spot to another (the good ole fashioned way – shovels and wheelbarrows), and there was even some more digging – no 4foot holes this time though; phew!! These were much smaller holes for the teeter-totter in the playground area.

The concrete forms for the footings of the expansion were finished, and in the afternoon we worked hard to mix concrete (the good ole fashioned way also) and poured them. Best moment of the day – when Quintin told me he's never seen a woman work as physically hard as I did! So nice! Especially since I rarely get dirty at home – I've kind of turned into a bit of a princess over the years, and I don't like to get my nails dirty. But, I left that fear of dirt in Canada, cut my nails short, and have embraced the hard work required of us this week. It hasn't been easy, but in my exhaustion at the end of the day I know that what I'm doing is making a difference for these kids at the school. And Emma reminded me of that as we were shovelling gravel into the wheelbarrow in the hot hot sun, sweat pouring down our dirty faces, that each shovel-full is benefiting one of the 400+ kids here at the school. Great lil reminder of why we're here!

We ended up leaving the worksite a little early today so that we could clean ourselves up a bit before going to Maynor and Alicia's house for supper. Was awesome to spend a bit of time with them, seeing their house and how their life is lived here in Nicaragua. And the pizza they ordered in for us was pretty delicious too! :) I can understand not wanting to cook for 13 adults in her kitchen; its just a bit smaller than the sizes we're used at home. :)
