Hola amigos. My trip to Nicaragua has been fantastic so far. The food is amazing and the scenery is breathtaking. We are blessed that no one has gotten sick yet. Today we went back to Little Benjamin Christian School to work on the addition.
Again, all the kids were so excited to see us as we walked out of the van. I was relieved when I saw we had no more holes to dig. We continued to paint and to prepare to pour more concrete today. After lunch, all the guys went to the hardware store for supplies, and ended up coming back with a few extra tools....we found knives and machetes super cheap! This definitely made our day! When we got back to work, the sky was really getting dark and within minutes it started to rain. And when it rains in Nicaragua it doesn't just rain, it pours! We all stopped working and had to find shelter. The rain was fortunate because then I could talk with the highschool girls there. :) We've been communicating though their English teacher, Marcos, and also with a little spanish I picked up (suddenly I have a reason to really pay attention!).
In the background (not that I was paying much attention), Emma and Teresa got muddy playing soccer in the rain with our Nicaraguan co-worker Mike, and everyone else chilled, waiting for Lestor to decide if we were gonna call it a day....he waited til 3pm, and we packed up. I really appreciated the extra time spent hanging out with the Nicaraguan girls...Mom and Dad, I might be staying a litlle longer. :)
So, today was more about the relationships since the workday was cut short. I really wasn't expecting to have much in common with anyone here since we live such different lives and speak different languages. But, I've realized that teens here are the same as us. And I've really enjoyed getting to know them better and learning about their culture.
