Day 3: Concrete

Hola Friends and Family,

We woke up refreshed this morning ready for what was anticipated as a very hard days work, mixing and pouring concrete into the trench to build a foundation for the walls. Being a Saturday, the kids were not at school today leaving just our team, the construction leads, and a few staff members of the school.

We started my shoveling a good supply of sand, stones, and concrete onto the ground space we had cleared up yesterday. This allowed a very large space in which we were able to mix and then use buckets and wheelbarrows to start filling the trench. God blessed us with some well-timed moments where the clouds came, or a nice breeze of wind arrived right when we needed it.

We were also all blessed today as a local cut down some early stage coconuts and we all got the experience of drinking coconut water fresh out of the coconut. A very thoughtful gesture on a hot day like today.

Team unity and effort was showcased today and despite a very hard day’s work, I believe there were moments where we were able to step back and realize the bigger picture and the small part, we were playing in God’s plan to bless this school, its students, and teachers.

We have also all been able to really connect with Juan (our driver and interpreter), getting to know pieces of his life, and share ours with him as well.

As the day winds down, we are about to gather for our daily worship time, as well as a time of sharing and prayer for each other, our families, and our community’s.

Tomorrow we will embark on going to the local church (which started the school) and join the locals in worship as well as take a day’s break from work and enjoy the day of rest.

God bless,
