Working in the heat!

After receiving a text today saying that it was -22 degrees celsius in Alberta and even before the sun rose this morning it was +23 degrees here, (not that we are bragging) we are reminded once again of how vast this earth is, and yet compared to the universe, Earth is just a mere spec.  It simply amazes me that a God who is great enough to create all of this, would choose to love us, a mere human being, just a spec on the earth that is just a spec in the universe.  We have been reminded today of how He loved us enough that He sent His Son Jesus to die for us. No words can express how Amazing this is.

This day started with a quick breakfast followed by an introduction from one of our hosts pictured below.  We then proceeded to the school where we got to meet the principal, who shared with us the history and vision of these schools here in the DR, which once again comfirmed to us the importance of this trip.

After learning our tasks from the locals, we got to it.  Our work today consisted of digging, picking, mixing mortar, and laying cinder blocks.  We are helping to construct two new classrooms for an overcrowded school.  We are all amazed at how the locals can work in this heat, doing this type of work, everyday.  By early afternoon we were all feeling the "burn."  This was one day where we can honestly say, "the joy of the Lord is our strength!"  Speaking of the joy, you can just see the joy that this project has brought the kids of this school.  They are all very welcoming, curious, and truly joyful!

There are a few extra pictures today to give you an idea of the project happening here.
