Last day of work

So today was our last work day here in the DR.  We’ve been gone for only 8 days but it seems like we’ve been here longer. It was nice to meet everyone here on the job site as well as the few students, teachers, and the principal of the Belen School. It was a great learning experience for all of us students and chaperones to see how they do everything manually. The crew there is awesome to work with, and so are the students! It was great to meet them all.

At the end of the day, when we got back to camp, most of us went into the pool, while a few of us took a nap *cough*me*cough*. (I was feeling a little ill) I did end up going into the pool, but only for about 45 minutes…. After everyone else got out.

We had the best supper ever, though all of the suppers here were pretty awesome. We had rice, chicken, salad cucumber and tomato, and cooked papaya mixed with cinnamon.  It was really good. I think most of us are going to miss the cooking here. Breakfasts, lunches, and dinners were all exceptionally well made. Kudos to those who cooked them.

After dinner, we went to the mall. This mall is 4 stories high and huge. We all split up into groups of 2 or more, and wandered around for an hour until we had to meet up with the others in front of Wendy’s to get ice cream. (It was really yummy, by the way.)

I’m pretty sure everyone else is in the pool as I write this ;) Overall, I think this experience has opened our eyes to how richly God has blessed us, and how much different and discontent we are back home.

Here they don’t care how it looks, as long as it gets done or gets them from point A to point B. They have some really beautiful places, but they aren’t very well looked-after. I think all of us here would gladly come here again for another mission trip in 2 years’ time.

Look not only to your own interests, but also to the interests of others.
