Westdale Team Preps

Westdale HANDS Team:

Our team of eleven members is beginning final preparations for our trip to the Dominican Republic - only 34 days away! The expectation is that we will be doing a mix of rebar work, form building for posts and beams, and cement mixing. We are all very excited about the trip!We ask for your prayers for our team in the weeks leading up to the trip. Prayers for our spiritual readiness, for our families we will leave at home, for safety as we travel, safety in our work, for the school we will work at, for the teachers and students we will meet, and the men we will work alongside.Stay tuned for further updates!

Greetings from the Dominican! I am part of the team from Kitchener working here right now. We wanted to let you know that your team will definitely be doing concrete work. There is little to no work with rebar - the Dominican workers take care of that. You will be pouring concrete to make the horizontal beams of the second storey. And of course, you can have fun with the local children. I am glad to see that your financial needs for the trip have been met. All the best in your final preparations.

You asked on our blog what you should bring in terms of tools. The contractor has a skilsaw, but would love a 7 1/4 inch blade for it. In terms of hand tools, a hand saw would be great especially if you would be willing to leave it behind. We also recommend work gloves with rubberized palms. We will leave behind a bottle of hand sanitizer that you can take to the work site as there are no real facilities for washing hands. Ask Guido for that.

One more thing. A heavy duty extension cord would be great to bring. They are unable to use the existing skilsaw because they can't bring the electricity to the second story. Thanks for considering.
