Day 11 2 comments

Our Team:

Wow, our last day in Nicaragua is coming to an end!

This morning we worked until about 10 AM. Then we were treated to a lovely, amazing service by the school! The principal, teachers, students, parents, pastor of the neighbouring church, and school board members were present. A teacher even went door to door to all the students' homes to get some students to come to the school today (as the red alert for earthquakes is still on and the children aren't attending school - they go back Monday though!).

The principal said some welcoming words and prayer. Scriptures were read by the pastor and a teacher, with some reflection. Teachers read poems and said words of gratitude to our team. the students sang "This Little Light of Mine" in Spanish, then even sang it in English as well! Then they each gave us a bag of candies and cookies. The school staff sang a worship song about thanksgiving too. It was such an honour to be a part of the service. Our team also sang a worship song, "God of this City." It is a song about how God is Lord over the city and Managua, and all nations. And that greater things are still in store for the city; God's not done his work in Nicaragua yet!

After the service, we had a Nicaraguan-style lunch made for us by the school. We were able to have fellowship with the service attendees, which was really great. We said goodbyes to the staff and to the other workers we worked with at the school this week, and headed back to the centre, stopping at the supermarket along the way to get some yummy cheesecake :)

We just finished up a game of basketball (even Lester played for a bit!). We are excited for our last dinner here in Managua. We are NOT excited to finish packing up all our stuff, and for leaving here at 4 AM tomorrow!! We return to Thunder Bay around 10:30 PM tomorrow.

We are hoping to do an information night for everyone back in Thunder Bay very soon. Watch the bulletins and facebook for more details!

We just wanted to thank you again so much for following us with this journey. It has been an amazing experience and we have all learned so much, all of which we hope to take home with us. This organization, Edudeo, was such a great organization to work with, and we truly feel satisfied with them and believe that through this once in a lifetime experience, our lives and our faith will be changed forever. Who knows, we may be blogging again in Nicaragua or elsewhere on this site in the future! But we couldn't have done this without all your support through funds and prayer. So THANK YOU!! We will never forget these past couple weeks, and the time spent preparing for them.

How good and pleasant it iswhen God’s people live together in unity! It is like precious oil poured on the head, running down on the beard, running down on Aaron’s beard, down on the collar of his robe. It is as if the dew of Hermonwere falling on Mount Zion. For there the Lord bestows his blessing, even life forevermore. Psalm 133, this was read at the service today.

Day 10 1 comment

Today was quite similar to yesterday - another full day of work! We finished up all the rebar cages and poured concrete. We had lots of fun working together. We're going to miss Lester and his workers! Tomorrow we will begin painting perlings and possibly pour more concrete.

Tomorrow, we will work until noon and the teachers at the school willl prepare us some lunch. They are also having a talent show for us, which we hope to participate in! Then we have devotions and debriefing with Lester before we pack up our things and sleep for a few hours (as we have to leave the centre around 4 am!).

Tonight many of the girls will begin packing, because several of them had issues with their luggage being to heavy on the way down and their room is a mess, so packing will likely take awhile. Adena even bought a new bag at the market to allow for a bit less weight in her checked luggage!

Thanks for reading, we will be posting tomorrow night as well! :)

Day 9 4 comments

Wow, we only have 3 more nights in Nicaragua!

Today we had another work day. In the morning before work, Mark and Steve (who works for Christian Reformed World Missions) spoke to us about the history of Nicaragua, and what they are doing here thru World Renew and CRWM. Steve encourages Nicaraguans to not only live out their faith while they are in church, but in all areas of their lives. Mark works to provide Nicaraguans with resources who need relief from disasters and educates them on resources to live sustainably, such as planting crops, and advocating for justice in their communities. It was great to see what these organizations are doing, especially since our church regularly supports both of them.

At work, we continued with the rebar cages. The guys poured a bit more concrete in the morning and prepared for pouring more tomorrow. Tomorrow we fill in the trenches that connect the deep holes for the foundation. We were all feeling pretty tired today after our few days off, but hopefully by tomorrow we will be able to get lots done before we go back to Canada.

We played basketball again when we returned, and just ate another delicious supper. Now we'll play a few games as usual before bed.

Thanks again for reading, and keeping us in your prayers! See you all in 3 days!:)
