The work is done.

Smithville 2015 HANDS Team:

Tuesday morning we returned to Leon, in order to complete the job. Much work remained but an early start was not to be had as the trip from Managua to Leon can be close to two hours at the wrong time of day.

We arrived on site at around 10 am. Perlines and walls needed to be painted and much electrical was still to be done. The team was ready to go and the result of that, was much progress was made by the end of Tuesday.

The progress continued all through Wednesday, and by the end of the day, we began to see the light at the end of the tunnel. Our goal would be to wrap up by Thursday, 3 pm.

On Thursday, our last day here, the staff of the Dr. Marcos school, made us a wonderful homemade lunch, cooked over the open fire, inside the building just a few meters off the street. They hung balloons and we enjoyed the meal all in a large circle, all 20 of us or so. Maria, the principal of the school, made a nice speech, as well as Pedro, one of the parents. They expressed so much gratitude for their prayers being answered in this way. They were so happy to see the much needed renovations being done and they thanked us over and over for the help we could provide.

We did meet our goal of 3:00 pm completion. The electrical and painting was done. The roof is not completed, but Felix and Pin will continue this work after we are gone. The roof portion of this job is a rather large project, and should be done in a week or two.

After some heartfelt goodbyes, we left Leon for Managua. Tomorrow morning, we fly home.

Good to hear that you accomplished much on this trip. We look forward to hearing about the adventure and the relationships you began. Have a safe trip home. You missed some real cold weather.
