Day 5----Learning Day

Red Deer HANDS Team:

Today was our learning day.  We started with a presentation by the director of ACECEN which is an organization, based in Nicaragua, that partner with Edudeo.  It works on cultivating teacher development, and focuses on training facilitators for 180 schools; they then return to their schools and work with their teachers.  This work has a direct impact on approximately 25 thousand students.

We then were given the opportunity to see first hand some of the work Edudeo has already completed.  We visited an elementary school with 130 students, and a larger preschool -  grade eleven school of 450 students.  Gateway students have worked at and both of these schools.  Both principals expressed real appreciation for the help they have received, and such gratitude for the relationships which have developed between HANDS teams and the schools they have been involved with.  They fully acknowledge God’s loving and caring provision.

Lester is Peter’s Nicaraguan partner who spends every day with us.  We were privileged to visit his home and to meet his wife and daughter.  It was also interesting for us to see a typical middle class home.

After lunch we visited a fire hall.  The fire fighters were thrilled to show Gord (and us) around.  Gord said they have only very basic equipment – all of which is donated.  Some of what we saw was donated by the US, Taiwan, and Russia.

We then visited a historical part of the city that was beautiful to see and interesting to learn about.   (Sheila treated us to ice cream!)  We ended our tour at the local market featuring authentic Nicaraguan ware.

We are enjoying another lovely evening outside on the patio – thank-you for your continued interest and prayers.

Just read all the blog postings, and was listening to the song cornerstone by hillsong. One of the line says "Christ alone cornerstone, weak made strong in the saviours love" You are now on your days of rest, I pray that the team is able to find rest, and restoration so that you are able to get back to work in the next few days. Also if you feel weak know that through the saviours love, and the hope that you are creating in the students will give you a sense of strength to keep working. Showing the Love of God to these people will give you strength. Continued prays go to the team and prayers that each and every member finds strength in this hope, and love.

Hello Friends... What an amazing venture of service you are on! While you give of yourselves to make life better for others, no doubt you are also being changed in ways big & small. It makes me think of a saying, "It is when you extend your hands to serve others that they become open to receive blessing as well." I hope that is true of your experience there!

“Do not worry in the least about yourself, leave all worry to God,' - this appears to be the commandment in all religions. This need not frighten anyone. He who devotes himself to service with a clear conscience, will day by day grasp the necessity for it in greater measure, and will continually grow richer in faith. The path of service can hardly be trodden by one who is not prepared to renounce self-interest, and to recognize the conditions of his birth. Consciously or unconsciously, every one of us does render some service or other. If we cultivate the habit of doing this service deliberately, our desire for service will steadily grow stronger, and will make not only for our own happiness but that of the world at large.” ― Mahatma Gandhi

Wishing you well & keeping you close in thought & prayer! God Bless You!!
