Another Brick in the Wall

Poelman Family HANDS Team:

Day 5 (Nov 26): Another Brick in the Wall

We need more education.

Today we were able to work at the building site for the entire day. Before we left, we were playing with the children in the courtyard. Some of the children are there all the time, others pass by on their way to the school which is also in the CCAP compound. Today John was entertaining them with those helicopter things (the ones you roll quickly between your hands and they go flying up). In no time the children got the copter stuck on the roof, and it took Eric holding a boy way above his head, and the boy holding a long pipe to get it down. The children are such a blessing (and entertainment) to be around.

We laid bricks all morning, with the mortar mixing jobs again being diligently handled by Ryan and Henry. There was suddenly a torrential downpour, so we ran for the building and got inside and had lunch during the rain. It was good timing. The afternoon was more brick laying, and we managed to get the walls for 2 classroom blocks completely raised to window height by 5:00. The architect/building contractor informed us we were good enough to have our diploma in brick laying in a week, and a degree in two weeks! He also speaks French, so Michelle and Lynae had fun singing Frere Jaques with him. It was a long but lighthearted day; some of the highlights included Lindsay and Jerry having a daka (mortar) fight (it escalated quickly), and a game where the last person who made fun of Henry won (its ongoing).

This evening we had a presentation from the coordinator for the Relief and Development Branch of the CCAP. There are several interesting projects ongoing, including seed distribution to farmers, and some fish farming as well. He informed us that most of their funding comes from World Renew (formerly CRWRC).

We continue our singing practice in preparation for Sunday......any suggestions would be appreciated.
