April 10-11

International Block Learning Trip - London & Toronto HANDS Team:

April 10-11

April 10th, we split up into two groups some of us went to a community kitchen and the others went to Bienvenidos school. I went to the school and painted all day long. We started painting the bottom half of the walls in the classrooms and by the end of the day we had finished painting everything Including the hallways and stairs.

April 11th, again we split up, 7 people from the group stayed back at the base to fix and paint desks for the school beside the base. The rest of us went to a school called Peña de Horeb to do construction. We were pouring concrete from buckets into forms for the walls where the recreational area will be when it is done. I got to smash out a part of the existing wall to become a larger door-way. Some of us helped lay cinder blocks, we moved cinder blocks, gravel, sand, and some smaller stone. Today was very hot and we got lots of sun while working. At the end of the day we got lots done. We are returning to Peña de Horeb tomorrow to do more construction as well as working more on the desks.

Thanks for the update Matt! While smashing walls is fun I am sure you may want to put safety glasses on as concrete is flying !
