Day 3-4

International Block Learning Trip - London & Toronto HANDS Team:

Today and yesterday weren’t really what the typical days will look like, probably because it was the weekend. Yesterday we toured around the colonial zone of Santo Domingo with Mario, the director of Synergia. We looked at the oldest church and road in all of the Americas. We looked at some other cool buildings and really got a sense for what some authentic Dominican Culture looks like. We ate, danced and interacted with all kinds of people.

Today we went with Mario to his church in the morning and Franklin’s church in the Evening. Mario is also a pastor and lead us in church this morning. All of the worship and sermons were very cool, and similar to what we have in Canada, yet also very different. People were so welcoming and happy to have us join them in their place of worship. They were so set in their faith and weren’t scared of what people think of them, and I thought that it was really freeing. I found that in this place, where I don’t even speak the same language, I could feel a more real sense of God than in a place with English speaking people. People went out of their way to make it so that we could understand, through translators and English music. I loved to see the vocal and physical representations of faith and worship. Through the last two days we were all able to make more connections with local people from all ages and walks of life. I hope to make more connections as the time goes on. Please continue to pray for safety and health for everyone.
