Day 14

Hope 4 HANDS Team:

After receiving a warm farewell from CCAP at the guesthouse in Lundazi, the team hit the road for Mfuwe. We wound up on another Rosa for the drive and enjoyed  some sandwiches with our favourite Zambian ground nut (peanut) spread.

Once we got to Mfuwe, we checked into our lodge and noticed right away that there were hippos in the river. They were far from the only wildlife that we saw.

We started our game drive into the South Luangwa National Park, and it began with a bang. Nearly as soon as we crossed the river, we saw a hippo diving into the water. From there, we saw lions (multiple!), hyenas, impalas, elephants, cape buffalo, baboons, and a leopard, among others. Jerry tried to get a picture of the lion, but Claudia photobombed it.

We feel privileged at being here to witness this piece of God's creation. Seeing the park feels in a small way like looking back into another time, before humans were at the top of the food chain. It is humbling to be sitting 2.5 meters from a very healthy lion.

What an experience, to see a different part of God's fantastic creation. Enjoy!
