Day 10

Hope 4 HANDS Team:

We all woke up a bit stiff from our Zambian soccer match. Up by 6:30 are morning devotion, breakfast and then off to work.  It was a bit bumpy going down the road and a few puddles from recent rains. But the sun was out and warming up.

Today we started construction which was a new beginning. They had already mixed some mortar for parging and we started mixing more and the rest of the group received a lesson on parging. Everybody started with enthusiasm. Clouds built up as the day went and it was a nice cool work day. By the end of the day we were just under half way parging the outside walls.

We also had time to sing with the kids and play a few games with them led by Collins.

The day got real interesting on the way home. We drove down the same bumpy road on the way back and started to notice that earlier it had rained and rained hard! We could see the water laying in the rows of maize. We came to the same low spot we've crossed each day. Jack took a minute and assessed the situation. Then proceeded forward trying to miss the ruts, but a big bump and the bus lurched side ways and the front wheel went into the field and sunk. Jack got out to look followed by the team eager to assist. He got back in and with the help of some strong men and Claudia we were able to push him out. But now how to get up the hill. Jack pinned it and we attempted to push, but he soon lurched up and straddled some huge ruts. We ran up the hill to get in the bus, but not before David found a sink hole and almost sunk in. The rest of ride home got better, but we seen a lot of running water.

We arrived back at the guest house by 5:30. We are waiting patiently for water and power to come back.

Thanks again,

Hope 4
