Our Last Day at Work

Guido 2014 HANDS Team:

Greetings from Republica Dominicana!

Today was our last day at work, and it was only a half day. We helped move more gravel, plaster, and sand, before saying goodbye to our fellow workers. Despite the language barrier, we have become good friends over the last week, and it was not easy to say goodbye. The foreman, the principal, and one of the workers, Jose, said a few words, which our faithful guide, Victor, translated for us. They thanked us for our work, and wished us God's blessings as we go our seperate ways.

Before we left the school, we walked through all the classrooms, and said goodbye to the students After that, we went on a community walk. The walk was very interesting and enlightening, as we got to see what kind of homes most of the students live in, and who the work done in the school is benefitting. We then drove to 2 other schools run by COCREF, and we plan to visit another one tomorrow.

We headed back to the mission centre for showers, before leaving for the market. That was certainly a new and enjoyable experience, as we got to test out our bargaining skills. Afterwords, we went out for pizza with the team, Victor, and 2 members of the COCREF board.

Tomorrow is our last day here, as our plane leaves in the early afternoon. We are looking forward to being home, but we will most certainly miss all the wonderful people we have met during our time here.
