Day 6 - Priming Time

Guido 2013 HANDS Team:

Beunos Noches! (Good evening!)

Greetings from all of us in the DR!

Once again we were at the school today, however it was a rather quiet day because there was a mix-up with all the kids going to school; only the ones with asthma were supposed to stay home (due to the dust from all our sanding) but instead, most of the kids stayed home! But a lot of the kids from the neighbourhood kept us company and we were well-fed with many candies and little gifts.

Today was different though; we have moved on from the sanding and making/moving cement to priming all the walls! We primed the walls and ceilings of 4 classrooms as well as the whole back and sides of the new addition. By the end of the day we were covered in paint from head to toe (and also built up more muscles) but it was a fantastic day!

This evening we had a great experience of joining in with a spanish Youth Group. This took place in an alley in the middle of a neighbourhood, lit with one lightbulb. Our leader Victor leads this youth group every Tuesday evening, and it involved lots of enthusiastic singing and also a great message from a local pastor. It was truly an enriching experince!

Now we are sitting outside in the warm breezy Dominican evening, not wanting to think about going home already in a few days... this has been an incredible trip thus far, and we will make the best of the last days we have here!

Love from us all!

It's fantastic that your experience is so diverse and incarnational, i.e., that you're able to enter into the local culture to a small degree. We were curious why Shane wasn't so dirty in the group pic - lol. Be assured of our prayers from snowy Hamilton!

We think Shane is the supervisor :) they never get dirty!

Looks like you had a great day! Painting ... what fun! And some cute kids to break up the work day and have some fun with. They will miss you ~ and you them! Enjoy the last few days.

Your pictures tell the story of the wonderful experiences that you all are having on your mission trip.

Hi Kim and Calvin,

So happy that you can experience this life-changing trip together.

Looking forward to hearing more about it. Hope you both are keeping healthy and well.

Love you both,

mom to Kim, grandmother to Calvin

I seem to recall Shane bragging during Math class at Guido about how he was going to bring a whip to assert his authority. Parents, check your children for stripes when they get home. :)

Shane, maybe literary work is more your thing, though no doubt you'll say that your superior skill at priming kept you from getting dirty. ;) :P

Dan, your expression in the one picture is priceless. Not sure if you're whistling or not. :)

Colin, looks like you're bent on advertising your interest in baseball everywhere. :)

Hope you all have a good last couple of days, and I hope to see you all safe and sound at school again next week!
