1st day!

Calgary HANDS Team:

After a long travel day yesterday we arrived safely in the Dominican!

Our first morning here we were off to the worksite at Balen School.  We where greeted by the principal who warmly welcomed us. He said that with the help of the Holy Spirit we would be able to be a blessing to each other as we spend the next serveral days together.  He hoped that our language barrier would not be the tower of Babel and we could accomplish much on their building project.

We enjoyed seeing and interacting with the school kids as they played outside for recess. They enjoyed practicing their English on us and we tried out some Spanish on them. The children started up a game of baseball using their arms for bats and some waded up trash for a ball. Rod jumped right into the game with the boys who showed their appreciation with huge smiles!

Our main project for the day was to tear off the existing roof of a section of the school. Here we thought we came to build but instead we're tearing things apart! We are excited to be a part of the school expansion process, as it will enable more children to be able to receive an education that is centered on Christ, and it is our prayer that they will become a light to their community.

What nice to keep in touch, what would you do without technology. Anyway I hope it's not to warm, so you can use the energy for building the addition to the school. May the Lord bless you as you serve Him in this way.

Blessings,

Liesbeth.

Love the enthusiasm of the Calgary ladies team. Obviously they are not afraid to do some heavy lifting. May God bless you richly while improving the school bldg.
