Isaias is a teacher at Presbyterian Day School (PDS) in Cristo Rey, Belize. He and his dedicated colleagues continue to teach even when there isn’t enough money to pay their salaries because they believe in the difference that quality, Christ-centred education is making in their community.

One of the major challenges in the community of Cristo Rey comes because it is close to the Mexican border. Many people work in the duty-free zone there and it is an area rife with alcohol abuse, broken marriages and social breakdown. Students who attend PDS have been affected by this, but they always feel free to confide in their teachers who help and pray for them and their families. God is using PDS and its teachers to make a difference and here is an update from Isaias thanking EduDeo for our partnership and suppor:

My name is Isaias Botes and I’ve been teaching at Presbyterian Day School for the past 11 years. I also serve at my home church as an elder and youth leader. My wife serves as the pre-school teacher and we have also been blessed with two boys - a four year old and a seven year old. Our service at PDS has been of great blessing and an excellent learning experience. I started teaching with an associate degree in General Studies but I knew I needed a degree in Primary Education to be able to perform better and also achieve a full teaching license from the ministry of education in Belize. Our school has always been struggling with finances, therefore I couldn’t get support to further my education and become qualified as a teacher.

Two years ago the Lord granted me the support to study through EduDeo Ministries. I was greatly blessed to be able to teach during the day and go to college at night. It was not easy, since I had the two busiest years in my life, but it was worth the sacrifice. I thank EduDeo for supporting me with my tuition payments because I would have not been able to do it without their aid. This past December I graduated with a certificate in Primary Education. I feel blessed to have finally finished studying. Now I can contribute more to school and also be of help towards my fellow teachers. The experience during these two years was filled with challenges but the good Lord was always there to care for me and my family. I learned a lot during this past two years, especially in the last three months, since I was assigned a supervisor and did a practicum in my school for those months.

Once again, thank you for supporting me in becoming a better teacher and a better servant in the ministry the Lord has put in my charge. May God bless you all greatly!
