Ms. Christian Cobos is the new principal at Concepcion Presbyterian Elementary School. Her new appointment has her motivated to serve her Lord and Saviour through her leadership role. This is her story:

“I am Ms. Christian Cobos presently living at Cristo Rey village in Corozal District, Belize. This is the community where I was born and lived most of my life.

I was born in a Christian home and grew up in the Presbyterian faith and church. My elementary schooling I did at Presbyterian Day School in my village. I never thought of being a school teacher. But without me knowing, the passion of my teachers and the many successes and achievements in school including the Christmas programs and chapel every Monday morning kindled my love for my God. This served to motivate me and take the challenge to teach Sunday school at my church. I enjoyed it and began to love the children more and more.

When a teaching post was announced at New Life Presbyterian School, I felt the strong calling to apply because I saw it as an opportunity to impact the lives of more children in day to day activities. I taught at New Life with great excitement. My heart longed to offer more to the children God had entrusted in my hands. So I applied and was accepted to do a certificate in elementary education to get more training.

The passion for the children and the love for my God just stirred my heart to even prepare more so that I can be better equipped to serve Him and my school even better. So I applied and was accepted to do my Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education.

Just as I never thought of becoming a school teacher, yet God called me and provided the opportunity, I also never thought of becoming a school leader! I helped and supported the school leader at New Life Presbyterian School, but not with the goal to become a leader. God’s Word reminds me of my favourite Scripture verse - “My ways are not your ways, my plans are not your plans; I have plans to prosper you and not to harm you!”

Around the month of May of this year, our General Manager approached me and asked me if I would contemplate on being tutored to become a school leader for school year 2016/2017. With much insecurity and fear, but seeing a great opportunity to serve my Lord, I said “Yes, I can take the challenge.”

In August of this year I was approached again by our General Manager, this time to tell me that there is a vacant post at Concepcion Presbyterian School for a school leader, and I am highly recommended for the post. I gladly took the challenge and opportunity. Why?

At that point I saw how God has been leading my life and His plans for me are beyond what I even thought. Born in a Christian home; did elementary schooling at a Presbyterian School; taught for some years at New Life Presbyterian School; and now being a School leader at Concepcion Presbyterian School - this is clearly God’s faithfulness! And how He is faithful to His covenant to raise leaders for His ministries! As He has provided and equipped me throughout the years, I can now give back from what He has blessed me with, and continue trusting in His faithful provision!

I thank God for everyone who has been part of God’s plan in my life! And I also pledge continued support for Christian education, because it does make a difference and yields great harvest!

I thank God for our Presbyterian School Ministry and look forward to be used by God for His Glory!”
