A Student at Nueva Creacion de Fe

“My name is Elvis Registre Robert. I’m 13 years old, and live Batey Bienvenido, Santo Domingo. I’m a student at Nueva Creacion de Fe Christian School.

At the age of 12 I came to Nueva Creacion de Fe.  However, though I was starting grade 6, I did not know how to read or write. At first I was very embarrassed because of this condition - I did not want to even go to school because I could not understand the class that was being taught, much less perform the tasks required. It was very difficult to pronounce and write the few words that I knew, given that my first language is Haitian Creole.

I was strongly encouraged by my teachers who motivated me by dedicating additional hours to work with me.  They taught me how to write words, transcribe newspaper excerpt clippings and many other activities. At home, my mother joined the call made by the teachers.  She dedicated time to support me as I completed my homework, correcting my reading and writing when I was wrong.

Today I thank God for all those who took time during school hours and after school time - completely free of charge - to help me overcome my condition. Each and every one of them are worthy of honour.  Thanks to these efforts I was able to successfully complete sixth grade. Today I am in 7th grade, but more than that I am happy, more confident and hopeful. Now I can proudly say that I can read and write properly, and my picture is on the honoured students’ board. This has taught me that there is nothing impossible if one works hard and gets the support required from others.”

It is the love of God for His children that inspires Christian teachers to spend extra time with students who face challenges.  Each child is loved by God, worthy of support, inspiration, and guidance to live into their calling in His Kingdom.  Join these teachers by becoming a Sponsor for Christ-centred education in the Dominican Republic.
