A Student at Hoya Basic School

Derick is a 17 year old grade 9 student at Hoya Basic School.  Derick has been brought up by his father’s relatives since both of his parents died when he was a little boy.  Life hasn’t been easy for him – he was not able to for school fees and requisites, as well as daily needs and necessities.  He started school in 2004.  Primary free education allowed him to go through grades 1-7.  He sat for grade 7 exams in 2011 and was selected to go to secondary school (grade 8).  However, at this level he was required to pay school fees etc.  There was no one to pay for his school fees.  Through God’s gracious provision, one teach at Hoya was touched by the situation and decided to pay Derick’s school fees for the first term.  His aunt paid for his 2nd term, and another teacher paid for his 3rd term.  Mr. Mumba, the principal of Hoya Basic, saw that this would be a continual issue, so he began to look for funds to cover Derick’s fees, since he knew that CCAP was willing to step in to help children in similar situations.

Currently, Derick is receiving sponsorship assistance for his school fees/requisites, clothes, food, and accommodation.  He is very thankful to CCAP for coming to his aid.  His wish is that the sponsorship program should continue, so that other people will be helped through this.  His ambition is to become a teacher and help others.
