A Student at Renacer

Arianny is a grade 11 student at Colegio Renacer.

At Renacer, the staff recognizes the importance of character development in transformative education. Arianny and her peers have been challenged over the past few years to think outside of themselves, to impact the community around them. There are many difficult things in the community around them, and the high school students at Colegio Renacer are asked to consider how their efforts can help overcome the problems. After looking out at the needs of their community, Arianny and the other grade 11 and 12 students chose to assist their community by collaborating with an organization called "Clinica Profamillia Herrera" to promote hygiene and health education in a neighbouring batey at monthly community clinics. Renacer students collect food and then share this, together with services such as hair washing and cutting, through the clinic which is open to all who live in the batey. They spend some time singing and sharing Bible stories.

The students are excited about the project, and Arianny shares that she feels her heart has been changed because of the opportunity to serve in this way. She enjoys working with the children who come to the clinic, and her friends are always eager to be part of the activity as well. She feels honoured to have opportunities to share advice with younger children as she works with them. Arianny said she had never been part of a project like this before and it has changed her life, as well as those of her classmates.

Through working and praying together, God is changing their hearts from teenage self-absorbtion to deeply loving their community for a lifetime.
