A School that is part of COCREF

School of Hope

Many people in Hato Nuevo live on a day-to-day basis for food and basic necessities. Most are unable to afford even the most basic school supplies, but they understand the power of a Christian education and desire to see their children succeed. Meaning "The Hope," La Esperanza is a beacon of hope for the members of this community.

La Esperanza was founded on October 12th, 1992, with the aim of providing quality Christ-centred education at a low cost to this financially struggling community. Initially, the school began by offering pre-school through Grade 3, but has since continued to expand and add grades. By 1999, the school was able to officially offer a full elementary education through Grade 8 and enrollment continues to increase.

In 2002, this school added new classrooms and bathrooms. In 2011, with the assistance of HANDS Teams, 4 classrooms were been added to finish the new wing.  With the school's decision to offer high school education at the same location it became necessary to dismantle a row of older classrooms to make room for further expansion.  Again, with HANDS teams helping, a large two storey expansion was planned and constructed.  With the completion of this addition the school has room to fully accommodate both their primary and secondary schools.

The improved facilities will give children in Hato Nuevo the opportunity to receive quality, secondary level education right in their own community for the first time!  This will reduce their cost to complete their high school education, creating opportunity for the future and, most importantly, providing them with an education founded on a Biblical worldview and the eternal hope of the Gospel that transforms lives!

Awesome to see the second story, I was there twice to help paint the first new side and then secondly to help dig the foundation of the second side. What a blessing to see the kids again, see they are well, see the other teams serving. I can already envision the completed project and see how God will be doing a mighty work in that community. I pray God's blessing on Mary and her staff. I pray for Dorquidea, Emely, Katherine and Yocaira in grade 5 blessing for their families, and protection over them.
