A School that is part of COCREF

This school is located in the community of Los Guaricanos - a small village that historians have discovered was probably formed by the first freed slaves from the eastern part of Santo Domingo.  They had fled from the mines there, where they had been forced to work in slavery.

Belen - meaning "Bethlehem" - was founded in this community on September 5, 1988, at the request of Pastor David Benoit. The school started with 20 students in the primary level and Santos Benuat as the only teacher.

Due to population growth, the school quickly became too small.  In 1999, they acquired a local school building that had 7 classrooms, a library, and two offices.  Each classroom could hold about 30-40 students.

Today, Belen consists of two storeys, which provide Christ-centred education to around 200 students.
