MINISTRY UPDATE

We would like to extend our appreciation to our support community for your generous support of EduDeo Ministries. We are experiencing God's incredible blessings on our ministry as we see His hand at work in Nicaragua, Belize, the Dominican Republic, Zambia, South Sudan — and beyond! 

Our hope is to bring Gospel change through quality education rooted in a Biblical worldview to our partner schools worldwide.  This is where transformation begins!

We wanted to  share with you some of this fiscal year's updates on what is currently happening at EduDeo Ministries.

NICARAGUA - PARTNERING WITH THE NEHEMIAH CENTER & ACECEN (ASSOCIATION OF CHRISTIAN SCHOOLS IN NICARAGUA)

  • HANDS teams have been/are working on at least 8 different construction projects at various schools.
  • Volunteer educators Robert Koole & Tena Siebenga-Valstar visited Nicaragua in November to lead professional development sessions about student and teacher evaluation for ACECEN facilitators. They also visited schools to see and hear about the impact of Biblical worldview on teaching and learning.
  • 2 School2School (S2S) relationships continue to grow between Canadian and Nicaraguan schools.
  • A team of 9 Christian school teachers from across Canada travelled to Nicaragua in late July for the inaugural Discover & Learn trip. The primary aim of this 12 day trip was to provide an opportunity for dialogue between teachers from the two countries, opportunities for mutual learning, encouragement and support. Another trip is being organized for the summer of 2014.
  • EduDeo sponsored 3 Nicaraguan leaders to participate in the ‘REEDUCA’ (Red de Educadores Cristianos de Los Americas) Conference, a regional conference for Christian education, in December. The purpose is to connect with fellow Christian educational leaders from Central America in the Dominican Republic.
  • Walking Together Director Robert Koole participated in the ACECEN strategic planning session with ACECEN Director Pablo Melendez, ACECEN facilitators and board members, and others in January.
  • EduDeo funded ACECEN facilitators conducted 75 trainings sessions, made 181 school visits and provided training for 657 teachers this fiscal year.

BELIZE - PARTNERING WITH PCSB (PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH SCHOOLS OF BELIZE)

  • 4 HANDS teams have served in Belize and 1 more HANDS team will be sent
    out this fiscal year, building and renovating at 3 different schools to accommodate growing enrollment.
  • In August, volunteer educators Jim Vreugdenhil and Elaine Junk led 39 participants in a one-week professional development workshop on developing Biblical worldview in language arts teaching and learning.
  • In October, volunteer educator Bill DeJager joined with Presbyterian Church Schools in Belize (PCSB) general manager Alvaro Pott in visiting PCSB schools for dialogue with school leaders about school governance.
  • EduDeo sponsored PCSB educational leader Alvaro Pott to travel to Dominican Republic in December for the ‘REEDUCA’ Conference to connect with fellow Christian educational leaders from Central America.
  • EduDeo performed an organizational review of our partner PCSB and planning trip to Belize. Various schools were visted and celebrations were shared from each principal and the association leadership.
  • 1 School2School relationship continues to grow between a Canadian school and a school in Belize.

DOMINICAN REPUBLIC - PARTNERING WITH COCREF (COLEGIOS CRISTIANOS REFORMADOS)

  • 6 HANDS teams served in the Dominican Republic this fiscal year, specifically working at La Esperanza to assist in building the facilities necessary for them to officially qualify as a high school.
  • EduDeo continues to fund ‘Project Exelencia’, a program enabling a Dominican facilitator to provide teacher training to all COCREF teachers in sixteen schools.
  • In July, volunteer educators Diane Stronks and Gary VanArragon led teacher training sessions about integrating a Biblical worldview in Math and Science. They also set up guidelines for unit and lesson planning that participants further developed for their own COCREF schools.
  • COCREF hosted ‘REEDUCA’ Conference in December. REEDUCA serves as a forum for dialogue among Christian educational leaders from Central America.

ZAMBIA - PARTNERING WITH CCAP (CHURCH OF CENTRAL AFRICA PRESBYTERIAN)

  • 3 HANDS team travelled to Zambia to work at Mwase Day High School.
  • Mphamba Basic School is undergoing a project that will rehabilitate 1 classroom, while Emusa school has been able to rehabilitate 3 classrooms.
  • In October, EduDeo hosted 2 CCAP educational leaders: Rev Peter Chipeta and Boriface Mumbo. They met with Canadian educators and supporters in Ontario and Alberta.
  • Marc and Dora Stroobosscher volunteered for 4 months (January-April) with the CCAP Education Department providing financial, administrative and educational mentorship on behalf of EduDeo Ministries.
  • Volunteer educators Elco Vandergrift and Doug Monsma led Biblical worldview teacher training with 35 educational leaders and teachers in January . Their approach, called 'Teaching for Transformation', is being adapted by CCAP school leaders using the Zambian curriculum.

SOUTH SUDAN

  • Volunteer educators Ike and Jennie Witteveen and Jake & Minka Vriend spent 4 weeks in Ethiopia in September-October to lead Biblical worldview teacher training with 15 lead teachers who would in turn teach others. In partnership with CH Global, this session initiated a 3 year train-the-trainer model that would happen twice a year. Unfortunately, the second session scheduled for January 2014 in South Sudan needed to be postponed due to the civil unrest.
