On Mended Wings: Transforming Lives and Communities in NicaraguaBy Carol Van Klompenburg, guest blogger

My first day back in North America after a 2008 Service and Learning trip to Nicaragua, I wrote in my journal that my best words for the team trip were “touched” and “a momentous underground tectonic shift I do not yet understand.”

My search for that understanding took three years and produced the book On Mended Wings: Transforming Lives and Communities in Nicaragua -- and the resulting transformation of my own life feels as if it is still just beginning.

Nicaraguan Christian teachers, trained by the Nehemiah Center in Christian worldview, are vital to the transformation in their country. The center trains Nicaraguans to take the lead in their country’s transformation by modeling and sharing a biblical worldview and also serves as a conduit to channel funding and energy from collaborating organizations to places of most impact.

Through stories, information, journal entries, and photos, On Mended Wings reveals the transforming power of God at work among people who share the worldview and the work of EduDeo Ministries. Readers will meet Daniel and Darling, a couple who bought land to build a home, but then decided instead to build a school for neighbourhood children who could not read. They will meet Reyna, a teacher who took a drastic pay cut to join the staff of the first-ever Christian school in her community, and who is now the president of the association of Nicaraguan Christian schools. Readers will also encounter those who have been transformed after hardship, including an uneducated pastor’s wife who lived behind a curtain in a church building and a former gang member whose body is marked by violence.

On Mended Wings is available through EduDeo Ministries for $14.99 (plus shipping). Contact our office at info@edudeo.com or 866.360.4274 to order your copy today.

Thanks Jason - could not agree more.

Another great book is David Livermore's "Leading with Cultural Intelligence." I'm reading this one for a course right now.

This book is a must read for those going to Nicaragua. Great stories about so many of our friends there.
