Advent Devotional Series: Low Enough

Blog Archives:

Over the month of December, we will be posting an advent devotional written by Rev. David Tigchelaar each week, up to and including Christmas.  It is our prayer that these meditations will be a blessing to you as you contemplate what our Lord has done for us this Christmas season.

...that at the Name of Jesus every knee should bow in heaven and on earth and under the earth and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord to the glory of God the Father.” (Phil 2:10-11)

We have a beautiful picture in these words from the Bible: "that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow..." For once and for a lifetime, the world is united by the singular praise and adoration brought to the Name of Jesus. It’s rare that the world is united about anything, but here we have it that it can be united by Jesus.

It’s true that we are divided by so much. Power divides! Wealth divides! War divides, even today in that very piece of geography that Jesus entered.

But we should not lose hope.

There is a place where mankind can come together and that place is on our knees before the throne of Almighty God. It IS happening all over the world: in China and Canada, Nicaragua and Nigeria. It’s happening when people come to Jesus in their need and acknowledge that here is a Saviour and King more than worthy of the title. His work makes this so! His love compels us!

On our knees we look up into the face of His love and around to see the faces of others who like us have bowed our knees to this King. It unites the world like nothing else.

Today the church of Jesus is growing very fast. Young and old, families and individuals are learning in their hearts the true meaning of service and life lived under His Lordship. What a privilege it is to join this multitude of people that no one can number, taken from every tribe and people and nation.

It’s worth a lifetime of devotion and an eternity of praise.
