Why Fear the Unknown?

Blog Archives:

This blog was written by Walking Together Learning Leader Elco Vandergrift who is working alongside co-leaders Diane Stronks and Guillermo Yan together with Nicaraguan educators and leaders as part of the Leading Change With a Growth Mindset Walking Together project.

I have to admit, I was a little unsure about how things would go today. Despite the encouragement from Learning Leader Partner, Diane Stronks, that it'll be fine, I had never facilitiated a learning session in which translating was a part of the process.

So, yes, I met the wonderful people in Nicaragua who are partnering with EduDeo. And, would our plan work? Well, you never know until you try, right?

What I found out that there is a community in Nicaragua that is so eager to share and learn. And the graciousness in which we were received does impact us in a major way. I am grateful for how there was an eagerness to explore together.

Talking about effective practice within an organizational structure from a growth mindset was so well received... Why was I so fearful?

Discussing the theme of flourishing and unpacking leadership strengths is where we went. And the desire to "dig deeper" was so apparent.

Why fear the unknown? Perhaps it points to one's humanity in which we think our "stuff" is what will make a difference. God is at work here. I trust that He will continue to show me how we are joining Him in this journey.

Wow, sounds good. An answer to prayer. I continue praying for all of you.
