Strengthening Educational Leadership Blog First Contribution

Blog Archives:

Hi friends and colleagues,

Bill DeJager and I are now in Belize in Orange Walk Town.  We had an interesting trip yesterday....running into thunderstorms in Miami so planes were diverted and rescheduled.  We landed 3-4 hours late but were able to travel the last part of the trip together.  Pastor Alvaro Pott, the General Manager of the Presbyterian Christian Schools of Belize met us at the airport and transported us to the northern part of Belize to Orange Walk Town.

On the way to our accomodations, we stopped at Unity Presbyterian Christian School in Belize City and met Carolyn Betson, the principal who gave us a tour and spoke about her passion in leading children to Christ.  She runs a school that is intentional about creating a safe culture for students in a fairly difficult neighbourhood.  As she spoke, it became clear that she also is expecting students and teachers to be engaged in "excellent education" and feels that Christian education can blend the best of the gospel and the best of educational practices.  We are looking forward to working together with her later next week at the leadership conference.

After much needed rest, we have walked around town and are now anticipating joining the school community and especially the students at Cornerstone Christian High School for their graduation this afternoon.  We look forward to celebrating with the high school students all of their accomplishments and hopefully to hear some of their stories of how Christian education has transformed their lives.

Hope you keep following our posts and stories during this anticipated week of learning with the Belizean leaders of the Presbyterian Christian Schools.

Blessings,

Diane Stronks and Bill de Jager
