Planting Seeds of Hope with Woodland Christian High School

Blog Archives:

Schools Helping Schools

For two weeks every February, Woodland Christian High School (located just east of Kitchener, ON) holds a Special Emphasis Week (SEW) to support a local or international charity. This year, they chose EduDeo Ministries! Woodland’s focus this year was to raise funds for the training of a teacher facilitator in Nicaragua.  Teacher facilitators provide teacher training to over 30 schools, bringing transformational Christ-centred education to over 3,000 students!

Uprooting Poverty, Planting Seeds of Hope

This year’s SEW theme was “Uprooting Poverty, Planting Seeds of Hope” and the theme verse was Revelations 22:2, “And the leaves of the tree are for the healing of the nations.” The students participated in daily devotions focusing on this theme, learned about EduDeo Ministries, and heard the experiences of students who had participated in the school mission trip.  They also held several activities to raise funds; including a pancake breakfast, burger sale, movie buyout, lunch auction, student vs. teacher volleyball game, semi-formal dance, and a unique opportunity to throw a pie in the face of a favourite teacher!

“Special Emphasis Week was an incredibly fun way to raise money for EduDeo while learning about the amazing work they do, and our whole school enjoyed the week!” -Hannah Joosse, Woodland student

The students raised over $9,000 for EduDeo Ministries, and donations from parents brought the amount to a remarkable grand total of $15,534.20! The results of the campaign will come close to covering the training of not one, but TWO teacher facilitators!

We're excited to see the creativity and generosity of these students, teachers and parents have a significant impact on improving education for children in Nicaragua.

Praise the Lord!
